Rediscovering Iligan's Gastronomy 2013

Since my 2011 comeback in Iligan, I have become some sort of a hermit. I have stayed indoors and goes out casually to run errands and little dates. To top it all, I have been going to the same places all the time to eat [Jollibee and red ribbon, I an getting boring].

Until my cousin's graduation, I found out that Iligan has now becoming gastronimically rich.

Here are some new finds and "re-finds":

1. Psalm's kitchen

    Location: Quezon Avenue Extension

    Experience: I have come here due to hypoglycemia during a few of my errands

    Companion: Up to date, always by myself

    Verdict: 3-4 spoons

    Turn ons: a) desserts b) food presentation c) ambiance d) accesibility

    Turn offs: main courses are well presented but tastes about just fine

2. Biano's Pizza

    Location: San Miguel Village, Pala-o

    Experience: Pizza is my comfort food, mostly delivered to the hospital I work in

    Companion: BF and friends

    Verdict: 5 spoons for food

    Turn ons: Full house, chicken pesto and meat lovers

    Turn offs: beefy warma and tuna; ambiance 

3. Flamoo

    Location: The Strip, Quezon Avenue Extension

    Experience: Some outdoors shack

    Companion: BF and family

    Verdict: 4 spoons 

    Turn ons: salads and ambiance, free wifi

    Turn offs: slabs of meat and oils (talking about cholesterol)

4. Enang's Grill and Seafood Restaurant

    Location: Gerona Bridge, Andres Bonifacio Avenue

    Experience: "Lutong bahay" or home-cooked type of meals just tops everything off

    Companion: BF(our new favorite spot)

    Verdict: 4-5 spoons

    Turn ons: "Kinilaw", fisheto, chopseuy and ambiance

    Turn offs: slightly pricey

5. Jacko's Kan-anan

    Location: Gerona, Andres Bonifacio Avenue

    Experience: Comfort place were most of our friends meet, owned by a dear friend

    Companion: BF and friends

    Verdict: 4-5 spoons

    Turn ons: Ambiance, all good food and a little less price and wifi connection

    Turn offs: hmmm (hard to say, but I love them), sometimes though long service 

6. Fontina

    Location: Andres Bonifacio Avenue (near Kingsway Inn)

    Experience: Some fine dining experience

    Companion: Dear Friend ""Jun-jun"

    Verdict: 5 spoons

    Turn ons: Ambiance, Wifi connection and salads, pastas and desserts

    Turn offs: super pricey

6. Coffee Works

    Location: Andres Bonifacio Avenue corner Balite Drive

    Experience: Coffee and mostly talks

    Companion: BF and sisters

    Verdict: 4 spoons

    Turn ons: Ambiance, Wifi connection and ice-coffee; desserts

    Turn offs: quietly strong coffee for my taste

6. Aruma

    Location: De Leon Street

    Experience: Going with good friends and fun talks

    Companion: Good friends

    Verdict: 5 spoons

    Turn ons: Ambiance, Wifi connection and all their coffee

    Turn offs: all their sweets because I want to eat them all

6. Zoey's Cafe

    Location: Aguinaldo St corner Ramiro St

    Experience: Favorite me time place

    Companion: Mostly alone

    Verdict: 5 spoons

    Turn ons: Wifi connection and salads; Zoey's fave salad and chicken salad

    Turn offs: long service, needs renovations

Doggie Run 2013

LastApril 23, 2013, the Iligan Dog and Cat Doctor Animal Clinical Center held the first ever Doggie Run in Iligan City. It is spearheaded by theowner Dr. Miguel Paolo C. Cabreros in cooperation with the Inner Wheel ClubRanaw Circle of Friends, Iligan City Government and Konica Digital Photo Express.The theme is “MY PET, MY RESPONSIBILITY”.

Registration area are held in booths of the sponsors, Dunkin donuts and Sun cellular.

Dr Cabreros open the event and announcing the run will start soon.

Itis my first time to join a fun run because of busy schedules but this I made anexception. I am a dog lover and have been surrounded all my life with pets. Itis an opportune time for my Peanut and Moccah to meet other dogs and have fun.

Our beloved Kuya has arrived, Moccah and Peanut excited for the fun run.

Theassembly time was 5:00 am at Iligan City Plaza. We arrive just in time for therun. We registered and enjoyed watching the other dogs and owners. HoweverMoccah and Peanut were frantic with the loud music, seeing the large breed dogsand the people passing around and appreciating them.

Therewere four categories. These are the 1.5 k with dogs, 3k with dogs, 1.5 kwithout dogs and 3k without dogs. The package of the run included alsoanti-rabies vaccination. Various people with different walks of life joinedalong with their pet dogs and even a troop of soldiers joined the event. Siberianhuskies, golden retrievers, chow chows, Labradors, German shepherds, toy dogsand mixed breed puppies joined.

For the 1.5k run, the route is from Aguinaldo St turning to Roxas Avenue and turning point is 3 meters away from the Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes. The 3k run goes all the way to Andres Bonifacio Avenue near the Petron Gas station besides Kristine's bakeshop.

 

This little guy is probably now so excited to run.

Wejoined the 1.5 k categories since Peanut and Moccah are mixed poodle and ShihTzu. The run took about 30 minutes for us. They were hovering over me and triedto climb up to me at the start of the run but they endured until the end and surprisinglythey enjoyed. When I do take them for a walk I would drag them because theywill just sit even in 5 minutes time. I am very proud.

Afterthe run, the owners and their pets were allowed to rest and given treats.Awhile after, a doggie blessing was done led by a local priest. I was veryhappy to have them baptized of some sort. (pics)

Allin all, the run was successful and was very fun for Moccah and Peanut and forthe rest as well. These kinds of activities also help us, dog owners, becomeaware of the needs of our pets. I am very much hoping for the next doggie runand other activities also. Thank you for the fun.

Macapagal-Macaraeg Heritage House

This is the former house of two former presidents of the Philippines, President Diosdado Macapagal (9th, reigned 1961 to 1965) and his daughter President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo (14th, reigned 2001-2010). It was the father of Diosdado who lived in Iligan City. Diosdado and Gloria lived there momentarily .

Before running for president he run for office of vice president.

 

The place was declared by the National Historical Institute as a heritage house last August 2002. This is despite the dispute of some historians. Since then the house has been donated by the former President Arroyo to the government.

It is a typical 50's house. It is not that big like the mansions of politicians but it is spacious and inviting. What sets this house apart is that it has a big ballroom, a political house you may say and many among the visitors are from other places not from Iligan. In fact, my companion have never been here even though he is a resident of the area for 27 years.

The house is located in Buru-un, Iligan City near the famous spring pools, Timoga and a few meters away from Maria Cristina Falls. It can be reached by riding private vehicles, Buru-un and Linamon jeepney lines.
